
The Westminster College women’s basketball team will advance to the final round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference after defeating Dixie State in the semi-finals Friday night.
The Griffins defeated the Trailblazers with a final score of 65-53, leading the entire game.
Junior Sara McGinley started off the game strong with the first score of the game. The Griffins finished the first half with a 10-point led, setting the score at 34-24.
Westminster increased its lead from there, opening the third quarter with an 18-point lead — the largest lead of the night.
Dixie State didn’t come within eight points of the Griffins’ lead.
Westminster returns to the courts for the RMAC championship against the number one ranked team, Colorado Mesa, Saturday.
The Griffins previously defeated Colorado Mesa in its first game against the team Jan. 25. But, in the second game against each other, Westminster fell short Feb. 7.
The game is a rematch of the 2018-19 RMAC basketball final, when Westminster and Colorado Mesa also competed for the top spot.
The 2019 RMAC championship was Westminster’s first debut in the tournament final, where they came up short against the Mavericks.
