
The Westminster men’s basketball team went on the road to Colorado, playing Colorado Christian University Friday and Regis University Saturday.
Friday night the Griffins entered halftime trailing the Cougars by two points after a close first half.
With seven minutes left in the game, CCU pulled ahead with a twelve-point lead. Senior Alec Monson scored eight points in a 13-5 run achieving a season and career single-game high of 32 points and cutting the deficit down to four points.
Monson led all scorers with 32 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
Ultimately, the Griffins were defeated by the Cougars with a final score of 85-75.
The team went on to play the Rangers Saturday initially taking the lead, but struggling to hold on throughout the first half.
With 26 seconds left in the half, graduate student Jake Connor scored to tie the game. Regis took the lead at the buzzer with a three-point shot.
Regis extended its lead in the second half and won the game 75-64.
Monson led the Griffins with 16 points, senior Jai Jai Ely scored 15 points and junior Brandon Warr scored 11 points and 14 rebounds.
With the loss on Saturday, the Westminster team is tied with Regis for eighth place: the final spot in the upcoming Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament.
The Griffins finish their regular season at home against Dixie State University Friday.
