
In the first lacrosse game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the Westminster men’s lacrosse team dominated Colorado State University-Pueblo Friday afternoon with a final score of 23-6.
Fourteen seconds into the game, first-year student Jake Auger scored the opening goal. Within the opening five minutes, the Griffins went on to make another four consecutive goals scored by junior Chance Beutler, first-year Merritt McMahon and two more from Auger.
The Griffins shut out the Timberwolves in the second period giving them an 11-point lead at half-time.
The Timberwolves began the second half scoring two goals in the opening three minutes. The Griffins defense adjusted holding their opponent nearly scoreless the rest of the game as the offense finished with a 9-1 run.
Sophomore Chris Castiglia led the team with seven ground balls and Auger led the team with six goals and three assists for a total of nine points. Sophomore Spencer Whinery scored eight points with five goals and three assists.
The Griffins will return to play against Adams State at home on Sunday.
