As Spring semester approaches, Westminster College will debut a new schedule beginning on a Thursday — with an academic Monday, held on a Friday, immediately following. The semester will begin Thursday, Jan. 14 and Monday courses will be held Friday, Jan. 15.
No classes will be held the first Monday of the semester (Jan. 18) for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
No Friday courses will be held on the first week of school, according to an email sent out to students ahead of the semester. Instead, the first bout of Friday classes will be held during the second week on Jan. 22.
“We have made this change to ensure that our [Monday/Wednesday] classes have enough class meeting times and stay on schedule,” said Michael Santarosa, Westminster registrar, in the email announcement. “This is especially important for Monday-only classes, such as labs, which often lose an important class opportunity in the spring semester.”
The schedule is one of many changes to the Spring semester, including a shortened Spring break scheduled for March 11 and 12.
Westminster plans to continue with its hybrid system, hosting both in-person and online classes — similar to Fall semester. Commencement is scheduled for May 8, although it’s unclear whether it will be held in its traditional format.
