
The Westminster College men’s basketball team won its fourth and fifth games in a row against Adams State and Fort Lewis on the road.
The team held off a strong second-half comeback attempt against Adams State to defeat the Grizzlies Friday night. The final score was 71-67.
The Griffins secured a 13-point lead at halftime, increasing the lead to 18 points five minutes into the third quarter. Adams State closed the gap, taking a one-point lead with six minutes left in the game.
The score tied at 60 points with three minutes left in the game, with the Griffins taking the lead with a minute and a half left to play. Senior Joonas Tahvanainen scored a dunk with five seconds left in the game to secure the win.
Tahvanainen led Westminster with 14 points. Senior Jai Jai Ely added 13 points and graduate student Jake Connor scored 12 points.
The Griffins went on to defeat Fort Lewis Saturday, with a final score of 91-85. Connor scored a high of 23 points with Warr adding 20 points.
The team ended the first half with an eight-point lead, holding the lead for the duration of the game. The victory brought the Griffins to their fifth straight win — the longest winning streak of the season.
The men’s team improved to a 14-7 overall record with its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record to 9-6.
They’ll play two more road games, facing first-place Colorado Mesa Friday and third-place Western Colorado Saturday.
