
The Westminster men’s basketball team beat Fort Lewis College, 75-62, on Friday night and Adams State, 90-62, on Saturday night.
By halftime, Westminster and Fort Lewis were tied with 28 points each. The Griffins started the second half by outscoring the Skyhawks 31-13. Seniors Joonas Tahvanainen and Jai Jai Ely scored 10 points apiece within the first 12 minutes.
Tahvanainen finished with a game-high of 23 points and Ely scored 16 points and nine rebounds.
On Saturday, the Griffins took their home-court advantage to the next level against the Grizzlies. Westminster led by 17 points going into the second half.
With 11 minutes left in the game, Westminster had made 13 three-pointers and built a lead that grew to as much as 39 points.
Both Tahvanainen and senior Alec Monson recorded double-doubles with 18 points and 10 rebounds and 12 points and 10 rebounds, respectively.
The Griffins currently have an overall record of 16-9 and a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record of 11-8.
The team heads back on the road to play against Colorado Christian on Friday and Regis on Saturday.
