
The Westminster College men’s basketball team ended the weekend securing two wins against Western Colorado Friday and Colorado Mesa Saturday.
Westminster junior Brandon Warr and senior Joonas Tahvanainen scored 15 points apiece to lead the men’s team to a 78-62 win over Western Colorado Friday night at Behnken Field House.
The Griffins scored the first nine points of the game and finished the half up 15 point with a score of 43-28.
Westminster’s lead grew as large as 26 in the second half, securing the victory.
Tahvanainen scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half and grabbed seven rebounds. Warr finished with a game-high 11 rebounds, and graduate student Jake Connor added 12 points, hitting four 3-pointers in five attempts.
The Griffins went on to win another game against Colorado Mesa Saturday night with a final score of 77-62.

Holding a six-point lead with 10 minutes left in the game, the Griffins stretched the lead to 16 with five minutes remaining. Warr led the charge, scoring eight of the 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Connor led all scorers with 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Connor scored 10 straight near the end of the first half to help the Griffins take a four-point lead into halftime.
Warr finished with 19 points and six rebounds. He scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half, including four 3-pointers over a six-minute span.
The weekend improved the Griffin’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record to 7-6 and its overall record to 12-7
Westminster will face Adams State and Fort Lewis College on the road next weekend.
