The Dumke Center for Civic Engagement held a volunteer fair in the Richer Commons Thursday afternoon.
While music was playing and the sun warmed Richer Commons, Westminster students came to the fair between classes to meet with local nonprofit organizations.
“We are really passionate about connecting students to local organizations and nonprofits,” said Mackenzie Bledsoe, program coordinator for the Dumke Center for Civic Engagement.
Bledsoe said her big goal with this event was to help get more students involved with the Salt Lake community, whether it is through the Dumke Center or through the local nonprofits.
Some students who attended the fair were inspired to get involved with their local nonprofits.

Nikki Gate, a first-year student with an undeclared major, said that she wanted to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters and Volunteers of America Utah.
“I think it’s really cool that people want to help [others,]” Gate said.
Sophomore Ti’are Stroud-Lewis who has an undeclared major also got involved at the fair and the nonprofits offered. Stroud-Lewis visited eight tables, and said her favorites included Big Brothers Big Sisters and the International Refugee Committee.
“Especially [with] Big Brothers Big Sisters, it’s having a role model with kids and being able to hang out with them for a bit. I think it would be fun,” Stroud-Lewis said.
With the nonprofit organizations in Salt Lake City, students can get involved with the Salt Lake community and the Westminster community through the Dumke Center for Civic Engagement or any other organizations that pique their interests.
“We just want [students] to feel connected with not only the Westminster community but also the broader Salt Lake community,” Bledsoe said.
