Six students from Westminster College were awarded fellowships and honorable mentions from the National Science Foundation, providing opportunities for international research and professional development. It also paves the way for students to conduct research at any accredited U.S. institution of graduate education that they choose.
Five of the students are researchers from the Westminster Honors College, which is home to the Office of Fellowship Advising at the school.
NSF awarded fellowships to the following students:
- Maria G. Alvarez Zavala, who graduated in 2019, in Life Sciences: Environmental Biology
- Ember Bradbury, a senior biology major, in Life Sciences: Ecology
- Douglas Getty, who graduated in 2016, in Life Sciences: Psycholinguistics
Three other students were given honorable mentions:
- Grace Padilla, a senior neuroscience major, in Life Science: Neuroscience
- Jadie Adams, who graduated in 2018, in Comp/IS/Eng: Machine Learning
- Jake Bergquist, who graduated in 2017, in Engineering: Biomedical Engineering
The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program will provide the three awardees with a three-year annual stipend of $34,000 — along with a $12,000 cost of education allowance that can be used for tuition and fees — to conduct their research projects.
